I noticed on the inside of the cover there is a round ridge (about 3/8") with a notch out of it. I just bought a new-to-me 1997 Kawasaki Bayou 300 4X4 and replaced the oil filter and cleaned the air filter and changed the oil using autozone's brand 10w-30 oil. I've notice a little slipping if I was to gas it mostly in the high gears.

I would first ensure that the crankcase vent tube is open and is able to exhaust freely...its usually attached to the airbox.

I just changed the final gear oil on my bayou 220, the manual calls for .21 qt or 200 ml which does not seem like very much for that size gearbox. I went ahead and added 1/2 quart, which makes it where I can just see it. I am used to adding gear oil to the gearbox is full on other models.
