What I suspect KSP 2 will be doing is much smarter than trying to optimize the rigid-body physics engine: I suspect they're going in for some form of parts welding. If it keeps the total rigid-body-element count in the 100-200 range, that should keep the rigid-body physics from being the limiting factor for KSP 2 performance.I was extremely disappointed with the original launch of KSP 2 in EA.
