For the first decade of our marriage, I’d been routinely disappointed by Daniel’s gift-giving…or, to be more accurate, complete lack thereof. I always spent months looking for just the right gifts for him for Valentine’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas, and his birthday. He then said my mom and I both suck at gift giving. I asked him why he thinks I suck at gift giving and he brought up me becoming a crazy mean drunk off the bottle of whiskey I got him back on his 2015 birthday and being a cheapo not buying people good stuff they’d actually want, and just not putting much thought into things in general.
NTA a gift is a gift. He can't magically decide you should pay for something he gave you as a gift now that you have money. It's crazy he even mentioned that. Unless there's something you're not telling us, NTA. Giving a gift and then expecting the recipient to pay for it afterwards is a dick move. Nta but dad is.
