Our Doctor of Podiatric Medicine …Jul 19, 2016 · Podiatrist at VA hospitals are currently paid on the GS scale, based on the grade and step of that Podiatrist. When a new Podiatrist enters into the VA hospital, the starting grade and step for the Podiatrist will be determined based on their credentials, during the credentialing process. The GS scale has 15 Grades and 10 Steps within each grade. If you are a DPM and want to practice podiatry there isn't much add-on value to getting a DO and quite a financial burden goes along with it. The VA recently changed the salaries that they pay podiatrists (same for all VA hospitals), and salaries improved dramatically (low 100k to 200k-300k range). If podiatry was in a downward spiral like pharmacy, this would not have happened. The VA needs podiatrists, and this is a victory for podiatry as a whole.
