If you buy a sight pusher I would also put a strip of tape on each side of the slide before tightening the screws to hold the slide in place.

Place an eraser tipped pencil, eraser end, in the barrel of your safety checked shooter. Aim slightly upward to be certain the eraser is fully seated. Then fire (in a safe direction). If your block safety is properly releasing and the firing pin isn't broke the pencil should launch a few feet.

The black part is the block, the gold thing is the safety. On the left side, the block is in the way of the firing pin moving forward. On the right side, the block is pushed up, exposing the cutout, and allowing the firing pin to move forward. Eventually you'll take it apart to see for yourself.
