Duramax broken crank.

Mar 27, 2019 · After tear down, noticed stress cracks around the bowls of the pistons (no surprise there). Customer opted to tear down further for an engine rebuild with some upgraded parts to eliminate weak points. One of those upgrades being a Callies Durastar crankshaft. Fast forward 2 months and 30,000 miles, we now have an engine that has lost its thrust. Running L5P off LBZ ECM has been done by Banks and a couple others I know of. Issue is just the cam and crank reluctor tooth counts not matching up. Banks moves the crank ring to front for that reason. Cam ring, she just needs to locate TDC one rev and done. The way I was exploring is just recode the ECM bin file with correct tooth …Well, we about beat the crank out of the block, but haven't broke one yet. Same crank is back in the engine for another season, we'll see.Not sure about Duramax, but BBC should have forward thrust load applied to the crank flange (say 100 lbs) with 1/2 thrust load (say 50 lbs) applied rearward to the main thrust cap prior to and during initial tightening of the main thrust cap fasteners. The thrust loads used during assembly are arbitrary and do not need to simulate running loads.

Fluidamper has broken several cranks in DURAMAX's, they're too heavy (11lbs heavier than stock iirc), but the ones built in the last couple of years are supposed to be better. I just got done with an engine for a guy that he broke the crank on- would start and idle fine, had throttle until about 2200rpm and then would start cutting out and running erratic.

Once you remove that hub then you can see the cam gear and pin. It might be fine, and your issue is just the hub in front of it.
