The futures commissions on tda are nasty indeed. ~$5 per contract round trip. Terrible. But I like the interface and I think using ActiveTrader is easier and more intuitive than most other platforms I’ve tried. I’m currently trading MES on IB’s TWS platform and only paying about a buck per contract round trip. I haven't tried Tradovate, but Ninja Trader is good. Normally $500 margin for daytrading index e-minis, $50 /contract for micros, double right now due to the high volatility. Very customizable and as fuzzyp44 mentioned, lots of people develop features, add-ons, custom indicators, etc. Tradovate's platform is decent and free but then you're tied to using tradovate as a broker. Tradovate has god awful charting imo. Ninja Trader is expensive af, you pay $1k for the lifetime version and they only offer a demo of the leased version, so not even a demo of all the features. On top of that, it's got bad performance. I've had it crash multiple times during my demo and I have a good computer.
