She complained that gas was flowing from it and dripping from the engine. Then it was mentioned that the "little bottle" was full. Float is stuck, or the float valve leaking; happens all the time with the 800's. Check for gas in the intake, I'd bet you'll find some. '01 1500 Nomad. If the cable is good, the next step would be check the speedomemter receiver in the rear wheel. If not properly seated when the wheel is reinstalled, this part will not allow the cable to spin. May work for awhile then stop.

It turns on fine, but once I hit the starter it just clicks. Have checked all the usual things. I have had the bike over a year and am afraid to ride it. Sometimes it starts and sometimes not.

Check for oil around the spark plug cavity and then explore this further. On the 1500, the service manul says a special tool is need to pull the spark plug tubes, but you can fashion a tool out of the rear axle nut and unscrew the tube. I'd bet the 800 is similar.
