If you read the CVT replacement threads, most people have reported a whining noise coming from the transmission as the primary reason to visit the dealer. I don't believe anyone on here has had an outright failure or driveability issues, just odd noises that have resulted in their CVT being replaced under warranty. My transmission is howling at only 38 K miles of highway only driving.Through browsing several previous posts about CVT whine and the likes, I have taken the first steps. 1) Changed the Front and Rear Differential Fluid (I used Synthetic Gear Oil) 2) Drain and Fill the CVT Fluid. (appx 5 quarts came out, and I put appx 5 quarts of CVT fluid back in) These steps had no impact on the sound.CVT's whine really bad, especially if you push them. The whining will occur when CVT fluid is hot as viscosity lowers as the fluid gets hotter. Nothing to worry about, I recommend changing your fluid at 24k though if your rough on it like I am. The whining was getting really bad for me as the fluid was cycled pretty bad.

Well, I just changed out the CVT fluid with 3 qts of Honda CVT (dang that stuff is $$$) and the problem is still there. It doesn't whine in Park or reverse only in drive. You can even hear the whine in Drive without moving the car. the CVT. Other than the noise the CVT is still working fine, same as before.

If the noise goes away when you touch the throttle or put it in neutral, it sounds like your belt deflection is a "little" on the tight side but perfectly ok.
