Missoula's spring is usually 2 or 3 weeks ahead of Bozeman's. Bozeman has bigger mountains for hiking but Missoula has rafting/floating pretty much right downtown. Both have great beer and tons of places to drink it. Both are university towns that seem to still have a lively summer when the kids leave.Would recommend! Missoula and Montana are great in the summer months but the winters are long and dark. Winter feels like it lasts for 8 months out of the year. If you want to move here, Id strongly recommend visiting in the winter to see if your family likes it. I struggle myself cause I go to work in the dark and leave in the dark. Missoula is quite liberal, and although Bozeman is as well, it has a bit more of a balanced mix between conservative and liberal. Bozeman has more money right now. Banks EVERYWHERE. There's decent BC all over but it depends on how much you want to skin and whether or not you want sled access. Lolo Pass, the Bitterroots, The Missions, are all good options. Lost Trail is a real gem of a small affordable area.
